Simplicity

Simplicity is about subtracting the obvious and adding the meaningful ~ John Meada

So here I am doing my google search and find The Canary Report by Susie which is choke-full of information. I thought the article on Household Chemicals and Children's Health was fantastic and commented on it. (Great Site Susie!!!) This just hits home doesn't it. I am not sure if we are going to turn this chemical swamp we all helped create back in this lifetime but I am sure trying on my part. I just got so wrapped up in doing everything quick and fast. This leads to buying things quick and fast, making meals quick and fast. It has taken me all of the past 3 years to build a safe home with my hubby for our family. I don't take the quick way out anymore. I find that it is relaxing to get lost in what I feel is my life's purpose ~ being a wife, mother and homemaker first (you can add in mother lioness if you want to). It is my responsiblity to protect my children as best I can. It is my husband and I that educate them from the moment they come into our lives and it is once they go off to school that we learn how important it was to have good strong morals, values at home. We also try and teach them the things that will keep them safe, healthy and happy. Once they reach school they are influenced by so many other people. It is that foundation that was built on when they were young that we hope gets them through school. That is why I chose to go back to the simple (unpolluted) way of life. I am hoping that they have learned to keep things simple, too. They have watched as we started making our own cleaning products. They have watched how we stopped buying processed food, and they are helping me make our healthy meals. They are learning that exercise and rest is as important as getting a good education. 5 years ago, I was barely able to get out of bed, the toxic mold made me chronically fatigued, dizzy and confused. I watched my children and husband have the same symptoms. The worse thing for mw was that I was pregnant with my youngest at the time. I have fought to be as healthy as I am. I am that yellow canary that is not going to die by the poison that I eat, breathe, and touch because I do not want my children to have to live that way. I am going to find the way to keep my children healthy one step at a time so they never have to feel like that little bird in the coal mine.

On that note- for anyone with MCS I found that along with avoidance the next important step for healing is exercise. When I first worked my way up to 3 miles a day, I almost felt like I did before I got sick. I had to stop my exercise program when I ruptured an ovarian cyst and immediately noticed the difference. For anyone with MCS you need to keep active. The disease will win if you let it.

Thank you for your kinds words about my blog. Sorry so late responding to your post, I've been troubleshooting site problems and haven't visited others. I know you left wonderful comments on The Canary Report, which I have managed to completely erase by accidentally checking off a box while deleting spam. I just feel so bad about it (I blogged about it on the 26th). So I hope you will come back and repost b/c your comments were important!

I love your blog and I love this post-- I was just thinking yesterday about the "quick and fast" mindset of housecleaning. It takes me FOREVER to clean my tub and tile, using Bon Ami and a LOT of elbow grease! The tile is all etched from the minerals in the water, but the gunk and mold is down the drain. I can live with some discolored tile, while I would just about die if I used some harsh chemical cleanser. So the trade off is fine.

I'm so happy that we found each other. You are a wonderful role model and your kids are so lucky to have you as their Mom!!
