Dr. Weil hits it right on.

I love Dr. Weil and he is very true in the article he wrote. He states that the 14 ingredients you need to exclude in your anti-inflammatory diet are:

Animal fat, such as lard
Artificial sweeteners or non-nutritive sweeteners
Coconut oil
Corn oil
Cottonseed oil
Fractionated oil
High fructose corn syrup (HFCS)
Hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oil or vegetable shortening
Margarine
Palm or palm kernel oil
Blended vegetable oils
Safflower oil
Soybean oil
Sunflower oil

I know that we are going to hear so much information on how bad High Fructose Corn Syrup is and how it is killing us. It is bad, very bad. Soybeans are in everything and being allergic to it make is very hard to avoid. Back in the 80's to 90's it was the hydrogentated oils that were bad for you. Each year it just keeps getting worse and our bodies keep getting weaker.

Why is HFCS bad for me

Not so sweet for the planet

I do want to say that the AMA doesn't think that HFCS leads to obesity or other issues. (I will disagree with that) and the FDA says that it is natural. I can't agree with that either. Of course, this is just my opinion. I think too much of anything is a bad thing and HFCS is in everything.

I'm a very lucky girl b/c Dr. Weil is one of my physicians. He diagnosed my problems as Chemical Sensitivity in 1995. I had traveled to several doctors in four states to find someone who could help me, and I met with him at his home in Arizona (a mutual friend introduced us). Dr. Weil put me on a good diet, recommended Rolfing for some structural problems, and suggested Guided Imagery, and also taught me a breathing exercise. His recommendations brought me back from the brink. I should post about it on Canary Report. I have all his books and visit his website all the time. He's the bomb.

Anna have you read (somehow I bet you have!) The Ominvore's Dilemma? The whole discussion in there of how we now have corn in everything we eat, including HF corn syrup where there used to be cane sugar, because agribusiness has to do something with all that excess corn, produced by using petrochemical fertilizers and killing the bio-diversity of millions of acres of our farm-land - and then we eat this highly processed stuff that becomes glucose in our blood in no time flat - oh don't get me started... Oops - I already started. But I am with you, the USDA & FDA have too much status quo to protect to recognize the dangers but we are only at the very beginning of learning how destructive this is in many ways!

Anna,
I think that you meant exclude. These are ingredients to be avoided. And Dr. Weil was one of the first to draw attention to vegetable oils, trans fats and HFCS as the sources of inflammation in our diets.
I think that the current guidance is to stick to olive oil and supplement with fish oil (omega-3).
The HFCS does not have the same effect as the fructose that is part of sucrose. It is especially dangerous for diabetics and insidiously crosslinks proteins in the skin and causes aging.
Michael Pollan is a hero and his books (Omnivore's Dilemma and In Defense of Plants) are must reads. Sears and his Anti-inflammatory Zone is also useful.

I think my husband told me that high fructose corn syrup causes cancer and that the government purposefully puts this ingredient in our food.

I shop at Trader Joe's now. There is no way I would ever buy my food from a local supermarket.
