I have been making my own bathsalts for over 19 years. It is a simple recipe that works great and is quite cost effective, and healthy for people with MCS, or people that just don't want alot of chemicals added to the bath.
Basic Bath Salts Recipe
3 parts epsoms salts
2 parts baking soda
1 part sea salt
*Stores indefinately in a mason's jar. Add liberally to your bath.
Now you know that I don't use scents but if I wanted to I would make a sachet of organic herbs (fresh or dried) You could use organic rose petals, spearmint, lavendar or something like that and add the sachet to the tub.
For a good detoxification bath I use 3 cups epsoms salts, 2 cups baking soda and 1cup sea salt. I make the bath water as hot as I can stand it and soak for 20 minutes bringing on a good sweat.
I have also read that another detox bath is made up of 1 cup epsoms salts, 2 cups baking soda and 1 cup sea salt and you use a 1/2cup per bath. I haven't tried this formula so I cannot say if I feel better after it. Especially with MCS the larger amount seems to work better. If you have dry skin you might want to add a teaspoon of glycerin to the bath or apply organic aloe vera gel after the bath.

I hope you have a beautiful day.

I love HOT Epsom salt baths! I do exactly what you say here: pour it in the hottest water possible and then soak for about 20 minutes. I usually have a tea kettle of boiling water on hand to add some hot shots so the water stays piping hot, and I cover myself in towels to keep the heat in. Not only does the sweating help with detox, but it's so relaxing! Thanks for this recipe, I have used sea salt, but never added baking soda, I'll have to give it a try. Aloha!
Hi Anna,
First time to read on your blog...it is lovely the way you have designed it. I wish that I had a tub deep enough to soak in here, but it is very shallow...also would need a faucet "ball" to filter out the huge amount of chlorine in our city water. It is so strong. I know soaking would help me detox.
This isn't related to the bath topic, but I wanted to mention that I have gained so much insight into mold through Doug Kaufmann's program and books (www.dougkaufmann.com), since we lived in a moldy house for two years with a gas funace leak that brought on my MCS and my husband's rare cancer (I'm convinced it was the mold he tried to remediate!)
I followed his Phase One diet for a year...I think that is one of the reasons why I have improved as much as I have in the recent past.
Just thought I would mention Doug in case you had not heard about him. Incredible guy!
My best to you and your family....I hope for much healing for you, day by day.
God bless!
